Antiquities Announces Discovery of 19 Stone Masses
This morning, the Ministry of Antiquities started the excavation work in a piece of land owned by a citizen near the Temple of God Ptah in the area of Mait Rahina, who was arrested yesterday by the Tourism and Antiquities Police, dug into it and uncovered huge archaeological blocks submerged in the groundwater.
This was stated by Professor Ayman Ashmawy, head of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector at the Ministry of Antiquities, pointing out that the initial inspection by the inspectors of the antiquities of the Mitt hostage approved the archaeology of the blocks discovered and clarified that they are blocks of pink granite and limestone with hieroglyphic inscriptions.
The archaeological excavations carried out by an archaeological mission of the Ministry of Antiquities today revealed the discovery of 19 huge blocks of pink granite and limestone with inscriptions depicting the god Ptah, the god of the city of Memphis as well as cartridges of King Ramses II and other inscriptions depicting the king during the practice of weather.
“Love Dam”, which indicates that these blocks represent parts of the great temple of the god Ptah in the area of the dead hostage.
Ashmawy revealed that it is important as the land that was detected inside the architectural blocks is considered an extension of the temple of God Ptah adjacent to them and that the inscriptions engraved on the blocks indicate the greatness and splendor of the temple architecture.
He stressed that the Ministry will complete archaeological excavations in the region to detect the rest of the blocks.
He added that the discovered blocks were transferred to the open museum in Mit Rahina area and the museum garden to be cleaned, restored and then the authorities will consider how to display them in the appropriate place where they can be displayed in the museum.
