In Egypt we learned that when the Pharaohs were coronated they went through a secret ritual where man became god. Today our focus was on God who became man.

As we walked through the streets of Jerusalem we remembered the man Jesus. As Christians we believe Jesus was both God and man but often we think of him only in his divinity. So today we focused on his humanity.

We felt it in our feet as we climbed down the Mount of Olives, crossed the Kidron Valley, up Mount Moriah, down to the Central Valley and up the Western Hill.

We reflected on his passion, the crown of thorns, the beatings, the nails, the mocking crowd. He was a man who felt the pain, endured the scorn and fell exhausted carrying the cross to the hill of execution. Then as a completely sinless, innocent man he took the weight of the sins of the world… every single one… past, present and future…of me and of you… and died on that cross.

“How can I say thanks
for the things You have done for me?
Things so undeserved,
yet You gave to prove Your love for me;
the voices of a million angels
could not express my gratitude.
All that I am and ever hope to be,
I owe it all to Thee.

To God be the glory,
to God be the glory,
to God be the glory
for the things He has done.

With His blood He has saved me,
with His power He has raised me;
to God be the glory
for the things He has done.

Just let me live my life,
let it pleasing, Lord to Thee,
and if I gain any praise,
let it go to Calvary.”
