Today we spent the day in ancient Thebes, modern day Luxor. This was the capitol of Egypt during the New Kingdom period, the time when the Israelites were slaves in Egypt.
God called Moses to go to Pharaoh and demand that he let his people go. In Hebrews 11 we are told that Moses gave up all of the riches of Egypt to obey God’s calling. In Philippians 2 we are told that Jesus made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. Moses gave up Egyptian treasure to save the Israelites.
Jesus gave up heavenly riches to save us. What are we willing to give up to follow him?
