Shema!

This morning we began our day by reciting the shema: Hear O Israel, the LORD is your God, the LORD alone. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your might! After this we had the opportunity to go to the pyramids, walk around them and even going into one! Looking at these large structures of stone, many of us asked, “HOW did they build them?

But we were encouraged to ask a different question: WHY did they build them? We looked at the enormous resources, energy and time the pyramids took to build. We learned that Egypt had more gods and temples than any other culture in the ancient world. We learned that hieroglyphics means holy writing and that everything carved on stone has spiritual significance – it’s not art! The building of these pyramids was an act of worship – all of their heart, all of their souls, all of their might. As Christians living in the modern world, that challenges us – do we love OUR GOD, with all of our heart, all of our soul and all of our might?
