Cartouche
The oval band symbolizing continuity which enclosed two of the five names of pharaoh (nomen and prenomen) or the name of a god. The cartouche is derived from the circular shn ring hieroglyph. It is elongated and stretched to fit around the divine letters of the name of Pharoah that had an apotropaic effect of protecting the pharaoh.
